I have to say that fear and love are both root emotions, two of the five, along with grief, joy, and anger. So I don't feel that fear and love are in opposition to each other; both have vital roles to play. Both need to be honored.

From my own experience fear can tie into deep, even ancestral/genetic and child patterns, making it a personal saboteur.

It might just be that your transition is shaking your "right to exist." Your quote: "so a guy can become right afraid to even breathe."

Tu, my Apache teacher, told me once, go out and walk in nature and ask everything around you-- do you have the right to be? You will hear and feel in your cells all that is around you, wild and resilient, echo the truth. The universe and all of nature gives all of us the right to exist. This is helpful to me when I am shaken to the core and even when I am not shaken to the core. It helps me come home.

I am moved by your cry of the heart. It is deep, authentic and speaks of a dark night. These passages cannot be rushed though. I honor your path.

By the way, the Rumi translation is by Robert Bly.
